Media Release

Sydney 23 November 2017: With two motions – introduced by two Legislative Council members – the Parliament of New South Wales praised the work of the Order of AHEPA NSW INC . specifically, on 16 November , the Hon. Courtney Houssos MLC moved a motion of congratulations for AHEPA NSW INC for its initiative with the Teaching Hellenic via tablets project . The Hon. David Clarke MLC moved a motion of congratulations for the Hellenic National Day (28 October) event held at AHEPA Hall, Rockdale . The twin motions were carried unanimously by the Legislative Council .

In Mrs Houssos ’ motion , the state’s upper house congratulated AHEPA NSW Inc for the co - organisation of the successful event on 4 November in support of the teaching of Hellenic language and culture through tablets at Earlwood and Clemton Park Public Schools .

In his motion , the Parliamentary Secretary for Justice , Mr. Clarke congratulated AHEPA NSW INC President John Kallimanis, Secretary Dr Panayiotis Diamadis and the Executive Committee of AHEPA NSW INC for the organisation of the celebration of Hellenic National Day as well as for their continued work for the Australian Hellenic community.

AHEPA NSW INC President Mr . Kallimanis , the members and the friends of the Association sincerely thank the Hon. Courtney Houssos MLC and the Hon. David Clarke MLC. As much for their presence at these AHEPA NSW INC events as for their motions. The entire Association wishes them both all the best.

Σύδνεϋ 23 Νοεμβρίου 2017: Με δύο ψηφίσματα – εισηγήσεις δύο πολιτειακών Γερουσιαστών - το Κοινοβούλιο της Νέας Νοτίου Ουαλίας πλέκει τα εγκώμια του έργου της ΑΧΕΠΑ Νέας Νοτίου Ουαλίας. Συγκεκριμένα, στις 16 Νοεμβρίου, η κα. Courtney Χούσσου MLC πρότεινε ψήφισμα συγχαίροντας τον Σύνδεσμο της ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ για την πρωτοβουλία υπέρ ενίσχυσης των ελληνικών γραμμάτων. Με τη σειρά του, ο κ. David Clarke MLC πρότεινε ψήφισμα για την εκδήλωση της Εθνικής Εορτής της 28 ης Οκτωβρίου στο σπίτι της ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ στο Rockdale. Τα δύο ψηφίσματα υιοθετήθηκαν ομόφωνα από την Πολιτειακή Γερουσία.

Με εισήγηση της κας. Χούσσου, η Πολιτειακή Γερουσία σύγχαιρε την ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ για την διοργάνωση της επιτυχημένης εκδήλωσης της 4 ης Νοεμβρίου υπέρ ενίσχυσης του προγράμματος διδασκαλίας ελληνικής γλώσσας και πολιτισμού διά μέσω υπολογιστών, στα Δημοτικά Σχολεία Earlwood και Clemton Park.

Η εισήγηση του πολιτειακού Υφυπουργού Δικαιοσύνης κ. Clarke σύγχαιρε τον πολιτειακό πρόεδρο κ. Γιάννη Καλλιμάνη, τον πολιτειακό Γραμματέα Δρ Παναγιώτη Διαμάντη και το Διοιηκη τικό Συμβούλιο της ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ για την διοργάνωση της εκδήλωσης για την Εθνική Εορτή του Ελληνισμού καθώς και για το συνεχιζόμενο έργο τους για την Αυστραλιανή Ελληνική κοινότητα .

Ο Πολιτειακός Πρόεδρος της ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ κ. Καλλιμάνης, τα μέλη και οι φίλοι του Συνδέσμου ευχαριστούν τους δύο πολιτειακούς Γερουσιαστές κα. Courtney Χούσσου MLC και κ. David Clarke MLC. Τόσο για την παρουσία τους στις εκδηλώσεις μας όσο και για τα ψηφίσματά τους. Να είστε πάντα καλά.

AUSTRALIAN HELLENIC EDUCATIONAL PROGRESS IVE ASSOCIATION NSW

The Hon. COURTNEY HOUSSOS ( 10:09 ): I move:

(1) That this House notes that:

(a) on Saturday 4 November 2017, the Australian Hellenic Educational Progressive Association NSW [AHEPA New South Wales] held a fundraising dinner dance at the Cyprus Community Club in Stanmore to support the teaching of the Greek language in public schools using tablets, in particular at Earlwood Public School and Clemton Park Public School; and

(b) a number of special guests joined local Greek community members at the event including:

(i) Mr John Kallimanis, President of Order of AHEPA NSW Inc.;

(ii) Mr Mark Coure, member for Oatley and Parliamentary Secretary for Transport;

(iii) Ms Sophie Cotsis, member for Canterbury and shadow Minister for Women, Ageing, Multiculturalism, and Disability Services;

(iv) the Hon. Courtney Houssos, MLC;

(v) Mrs Sandra Angel, Principal of Earlwood Public School;

(vi) Mr Paul Robinson, Deputy Principal of Clemton Park Public School;

(vii) Dr Panayiotis Diamadis, President of the Australian Hellenic Educators' Association; and

(2) That this House congratulates:

(a) the students of Earlwood Public School and Clemton Park Public School on their excellent Hellenic dancing performances throughout the evening; and

(b) AHEPA NSW on a successful event to support Greek language education at Earlwood Public School and Clemton Park Public School.
