Κυριακή 9 Ιουνίου 2019: Σε ανοικτή συνεδρίαση την Κυριακή 9 Ιουνίου έγιναν

τα αποκαλυπτήρια των σχεδίων της νέας έδρας της ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ στο Bexley

North στα νότια προάστεια του Σύδνεϋ. "Μου αρέσει γιατί είναι σύγχρονο",

δήλωσε το νεότερο στέλεχος σε ερώτηση του ΚΟΣΜΟΥ. Τα λόγια αυτά καθώς

και η δημόσια δήλωση του κ. Μιχάλη Μυστακίδη - εκφράζουν τα μέλη της ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ, όπως αυτά εκφράστηκαν προχθές το απόγευμα. Κύριος ομιλητής της συνεδρίασης ο αρχιτέκτονας κ. Νικήτας Κατρής με συντονιστή της παρουσίασης τον πολιτειακό πρόεδρο κ. Βασίλη Σκανδαλάκη και δεύτερο ομιλητή τον πρώην πολιτειακό πρόεδρο κ. Ιωάννη Καλλιμάνη.

Σε μία από τις ιστορικότερες συνεδριάσεις στα 85 χρόνια του Αυστραλιανού Ελληνικού Επιμορφωτικού Προοδευτικού Συνδέσμου Νέας Νοτίου Ουαλίας (ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ) το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο μαζί με το αρχιτεκτονικό γραφείο των αδελφών Κατρή (Katris Architects) παρουσίασαν με λεπτομέρεια τα σχέδια για την πρώτη φάση των νέων εγκαταστάσεων της ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ στο Bexley North.

Πρόκειται για διώροφο κτήριο με υπόγειο και χώρο στάθμευσης αυτοκινήτων (parking) άνω των 100 θέσεων. Το ισόγειο του κτιρίου θα παρέχει χώρους για lawn bowls, εστιατόριο-καφέ, καθώς και μεγάλη αίθουσα εκδηλώσεων. Στον πρώτο όροφο θα βρίσκονται τα γραφεία της ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ, αίθουσες για διαλέξεις/σεμινάρια, ομογενειακό μουσείο με εκθεσιακό χώρο, σύνολο περίπου 2.000 τ.μ. το κτίριο της Α’ φάσης.

Στην Β’ φάση του σχεδίου, θα ανεγερθεί χώρος πολλαπλών χρήσεων (multi- purpose hall) στο χώρο δίπλα από το πρώτο κτίριο. Άλλα 2.000 τ.μ. εγκαταστάσεις περίπου. Όπως γνωστό, το οικόπεδο είναι έκτασης περίπου 7.500 τ.μ. Στα λόγια του πολιτειακού προέδρου κ. Βασίλη Σκανδαλάκη, «Αυτό το κέντρο είναι η ευκαιρία να μάθουν οι επόμενες γενεές και οι φιλέλληνες τι θα πει να είσαι Έλληνας».

Ο πρώην πολιτειακός πρόεδρος κ. Ιωάννης Καλλιμάνης χαρακτήρισε το σχεδιασμένο κτίριο ως «η αρχή του Πολιτιστικού Κέντρου της ομογένειας στο Σύδνεϋ».

Ο αρχιτέκτονας κ. Κατρής ανακοίνωσε ότι την Παρασκευή 7 Ιουνίου κατατέθηκαν τα σχέδια αυτά στην Δημαρχία Bayside και αναμένουμε πλέον τις όποιες αλλαγές ζητήσει για να προχωρήσουμε στην ανέγερση του κτιρίου.

Σε απάντηση σε ερώτηση του κ. Σκανδαλάκη είπε: «Στα 38 χρόνια κατά τα οποία εργάζεται ως αρχιτέκτονας, έχω κάνει πολλά σχέδια για ελληνικές οργανώσεις. Αυτό το κτίριο είναι κάτι το οποίο θα φέρει τον ελληνισμό μαζί. Να καταφέρουμε κάτι να έρθει και να καταλάβει η νεολαία μας τι είναι να είσαι καταγωγή Έλληνας, και Αυστραλός».

Στη συνέχεια, ο κ. Κατρής δήλωσε ότι «είμαστε πολύ ενθουσιασμένοι για αυτό το έργο». Στη συνέχεια, δήλωσε: «Ευχαριστώ την ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ που από το 2016 μας εμπιστεύτηκε με αυτό το μεγάλο όραμα, αυτό το μεγάλο έργο».

Στα ίδια μήκη κύματος ενθουσιασμού εξέφρασαν δύο πρώην πρόεδροι Τμημάτων της ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ. Ο κ. Δημήτρης Τζαβάρας (Τμήμα Προμηθέας) είπε «Συγχαρητήρια για το νέο ‘Πατρίς’. Αυτό το οποίο είδαμε σήμερα είναι τα θεμέλια του αύριο.» Ο κ. Γιώργος Κάρης (Τμήμα Ιπποκράτης) τόνισε ότι «η Ελληνική ομογένεια χρειάζεται ζωτικούς χώρους. Συγχαίρω το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο που έφερε αυτά τα σχέδια. Το κτίριο αυτό έχει τους απαραίτητους ζωτικούς χώρους».

Τον τελευταίο λόγο τον είχε ο κ. Σκανδαλάκης. «Ευχαριστώ τον κ. Καλλιμάνη, αυτός άρχισε το όνειρο για το νέο σπίτι της ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ. Ευχαριστώ όλους σας που ήρθατε και που εκφράσατε την υποστήριξή σας στο μεγάλο βήμα για ένα λαμπρό μέλλον για την αγαπημένη μας ΑΧΕΠΑ ΝΝΟ και για την ελληνική ομογένεια».

Sunday 9 June 2019: At the open forum held on Sunday 9 June was

conducted the formal unveiling of the new headquarters of AHEPA NSW at

Bexley North in Sydney’s southern suburbs. "I like it because it is modern",

was the reaction of AHEPA NSW’s youngest regular visitor in response to a

question by the assembled media. These words, together with the public

statement by veteran journalist Mr. Michael Mystakidis - 'There is the Cultural Centre' - are representative of the feelings of AHEPA NSW’s members as

expressed that afternoon. The main presenter was chief architect Mr. Nick

Katris, while AHEPA NSW President Mr. Bill Skandalakis coordinated the

discussion and past president Mr. John Kallimanis served as second speaker.

In one of the most historic meetings in the 85 years of the Australian Hellenic Educational progressive Association of New South Wales (AHEPA NSW), the Committee together with Katris Architects presented in detail the designs for the first phase of the new headquarters of AHEPA NSW at Bexley North.

The facilities will include a two-storey building with a basement storage and over 100 parking places. The ground floor will host facilities for the Lawn Bowls Club members, a café-restaurant, as well as a large main function room. The first floor will host the offices of AHEPA NSW INC, seminar-lecture rooms, and an Australian Hellenic museum with exhibition space. In total, approximately 2,000 square metres of floorspace will be the building of Phase One.

Phase Two of the plan will be the construction of a multi-purpose hall and associated facilities beside the main building of Phase One. Another approximately 2,000 square metres of floorspace. As is known, the land area of the new AHEPA NSW headquarters covers approximately 7,500 square metres.

In the words of AHEPA NSW INC President Bill Skandalakis, «This centre is an opportunity for future generations of our community and for philhellenes to learn about what it means to be a Hellene».

Past AHEPA NSW INC President John Kallimanis characterised the new facilities as «the beginning of the Australian Hellenic Cultural Centre of Sydney».

Architect Nick Katris announced that on Friday 7 June the plans were submitted for approval by Bayside Council and AHEPA NSW INC is now awaiting any further changes it requests prior to the commencement of construction.

In response to a question by President Bill Skandalakis, Mr Katris said: «For 38 years I have been an architect. I have completed many designs for Hellenic community organisations. This building is something which will bring Hellenism together. To achieve something to bring our youth, to where they may understand what it means to be an Australian of Hellenic descent».

Mr Katris went on to state that «we are very enthusiastic about this project». He also stated: «Thank you AHEPA NSW for entrusting us since 2016 with this great vision, this great project».

On the same wavelength of enthusiasm were the responses of two Chapter Past Presidents of AHEPA NSW. Mr Jim Tzavaras (Chapter Prometheus) declared: «Congratulations on the new ‘Patris’ (referring to the famous migrant ship which brought thousands to Australia in the 1960s). What we saw today are the foundations of tomorrow».

Mr George Karis (Chapter Ippokratis) emphasised that «the Hellenic community needs living spaces. I congratulate the Committee which developed these plans. This building has the necessary living spaces».

The last word was eft to Mr. Skandalakis. «Thank you Mr Kallimanis, for he was the one who began the vision of the new home for AHEPA NSW. Thank you all for coming along and for expressing your support for the great step we are taking for a bright future for our beloved AHEPA NSW and for the Australian Hellenic community».
