SBS Radio Greek - AHEPA NSW (Order of AHEPA NSW Inc) held its annual conference last Sunday

SBS Radio Greek: More than 100 members attended. Among the topics that were discussed were the future cooperation with the Archdiocese and the progress of the works for the news premises at Bexley North.

The 65th annual Convention of the Order of AHEPA NSW developed with rich discussion and debate over the course of Sunday 8 December. Attended by over 100 members, the conversation revolved around developments across the 2018-2019 financial year, the donations AHEPA NSW made during that period to various educational and philanthropic causes. The focal point of the conversations were the immediate and long-term future of AHEPA NSW, especially the development of the relationship with our Archdiocese and the development of the new AHEPA NSW base at Bexley North in Sydney’s inner south.
In recognition of his decades of service to AHEPA NSW, Mr. Harry Polymeris was honoured with the title of Past Grand President.
Applause and sincere expressions of joy greeted the announcement of the outcomes of the audience of the executive of AHEPA NSW with His Eminence Archbishop Makarios. Especially the announcement that His Eminence will conduct the traditional new Year’s Blessing (ayiasmos) and cutting of the Saint Vasileios Cake (vasilopita) at AHEPA Hall in Rockdale on Monday 20 January 2020, together with the setting by His Eminence of the first Sunday of June each year as AHEPA Sunday.
On behalf of the delegates and all members, President Bill Skandalakis thanked His Eminence for the audience of 25 November as well as for his acceptance of the invitations of AHEPA NSW.
«For the first time in its 85 years, AHEPA NSW has the great honour to host the Archbishop of Australia at our hall,» announced President Skandalakis. «It is a most historic event for AHEPA NSW and for the Australian Hellenic community.»
A report was presented by AHEPA NSW architect Mr. Nick Katris and the chair of the Properties Committee Mr. Harry Fandakis about the progress of the great project of the new complex at the Bexley Bowling Club. The members were informed that the Development Application is in the hands of Bayside Council and is working its way through the necessary processes.
As emphasised by Mr. Katris, «it is a great honour for myself to design buildings which will become jewels of the Australian Hellenic community.»
The day-long Convention closed with the best wishes for everyone to have a very happy Christmas and New Year festive season with health and prosperity. The rendevouz was made for Saturday 14 December for the annual AHEPA NSW Christmas Party at AHEPA Hall.
